Diving for Pearls
Sifting through Google’s data to find meaning
I wouldn’t recommend taking your first trip into Google Analytics alone. It could become just a confusing and fruitless journey.
Instead, sit down with someone versed in Analytics and tell them what type of information you would be interested in. That person can show you the information that is available and how to navigate to it.
Perfect! You have defined your first set of meaningful metrics and you know exactly where they are.
Just One More Question. Why?
Interpreting your key metrics
One of the metrics indicates that 30% of your visits are from returning users. Does this mean they found your information interesting and came back for more, or didn’t they find what they were looking for the first time?
There are places in Analytics that can help you answer those types of questions. There’s a few more key metrics added to your skill set.
Now that you are the master of Analtyics’, it’s time to move on.
Turning Knowledge into Revenue
Looking into the past but not reliving it
All of those key metrics are useful for measuring the past. More important is that they can act as guides as you create robust sales funnels within your site.
When all of this is done effectively two things are going to happen.
- Your will convert more prospects into clients
- Google will send you more qualified prospects
Remember, Google actually wants to send you qualified leads, you just need to be worthy of it.
Time to roll up those sleeves and get to work.
